Summary (No Spoilers):

Tokyo Videos of Horror (2012) is a series of short found footage stories, all following the premise of supernatural occurrences being documented by coincidence. This is the second of the series.

In-Depth Review (Spoilers Ahead!):

Déjà Vu

This story follows a man and a hired reporter heading to investigate a bridge known for suicide attempts, but the hired reporter begins to act strangely, as if she'd been there before. She finds a cave with the word hell painted across it.

During their nighttime trip to the bridge, the hired reporter continues to act oddly as she slips into a pair of red shoes left behind, seeming to be in a trance-like state as if she's possessed. She wanders off.

The man finds her in the car, where strange sounds begin to happen like hands are smacking against the car and shaking it, and it seems like a strange figure's face could be caught on the camera.

Later, the hired reporter walked upstairs to her apartment as seen from the camera feed, still wearing those red shoes, and threw herself off the building, committing suicide.

This story was one of the most memorable, as it had a feeling somewhat reminiscent of works like Noroi: The Curse where there was an ancient and troubling history behind a location with enough mystery to make someone wonder.

Onsen Hotel

Two girls are at a hotel enjoying a hotpot meal togetherThere is a strange headless figure behind them. Little else is known about this besides their disappearance.

This was somewhat creepy with the headless figure in the background, but it was so short it was closer to something you'd find on YouTube.

The Stalker

A young woman, troubled by a stalker bothering her at home, uses a camera to record evidence of what happened, showing many bothersome and realistic scenes of harassment throughout her home, including verbal assault as her door's beaten so hard it shakes and pushing paper dolls through the mail slot, the dolls containing blood and unsettling writing in the center.

The young woman returns one night to her apartment seemingly broken into, and in a stunning moment, she finally gets a look at her stalker. Her stalker looks just like her, wearing the same clothes as she wears, and the young woman is flung back with the camera falling next to her as the video ends.

It is said the young woman is now in a mental institution as she suffers from dissociative identity disorder, and it is said she remains in there, making paper dolls.

One of the better stories, this leaves one wondering if the young woman had dissociative identity disorder at all. Was it instead her doppelganger who took her place? The lingering questions makes one think.

The Family

This shows a home video of a family, only for the baby to pass by a strange and ominous face on the ground. The face bears a slight resemblance to the one see in the first story, but that could be reused resources.

It is said the family committed suicide after the video was taken.

This story is once again quite short, and it has an ominous feeling to it, but it didn't do much for me. It also confuses me on the fate of the baby. Did they kill the baby too? That's not even suicide. That's just murder.

The School

Two young men return to their old abandoned high school that's going to be demolished and film it as they walk around.

Eventually the young men stumble upon a classroom with endless writing upon the chalkboard, which they both find mildly creepy, and then a voice calls over the intercom, suggesting for them to come to the science room.

The young men check the broadcasting room, but they find nothing, so they head to the science room, where they find a horrendous sight: their old teacher's been hung from a noose in the old school, his neck straining from the weight and looking disturbingly long and broken, completely unnatural.

One of the young men wants to leave, but the other with the camera berates the dead teacher, having always hated him.

The teacher's body spits something disgusting all over the camera and it gets on the man holding it. The body falls forward and hits the ground, the dampness of the abandoned school having turned his flesh rotten for the amount of time it was there and making it impossible for the teacher's head to remain upright.

The woman interviewing the young man who was friends with the cameraman gets his address and goes to check up on him after, revealing the cameraman has strange keloid scarring all over his face and the ghost of his old teacher still haunting him.

This story had a very unsettling setting with the abandoned school, and the sheer details and disgusting factor really made this a fascinating if disgusting story.

Movie Rating: 4.5/5
